We've got summer pre-level work starting today! The crew is on Tabor Road in Cashmere today and tomorrow before heading to the Chelan District.

When we are doing pre-level, plan for traffic delays in the work zone. The road is at one lane and flaggers are directing traffic. Avoid the area if you can. And lower those speeds through the work zone.

While county offices and the Moderate Risk Waste Facility will be closed this Friday for the Juneteenth federal holiday, the Dryden Transfer Station will be open during its normal hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. No loads are accepted after 3:45 p.m.

ROAD CLOSURES COMING: Just giving you all a heads-up that we will be closing again this year Horse Lake and Burch Mountain roads in Wenatchee because of concerns of illegal fireworks and drought conditions.

The closures are July 1-8. We will reopen the gates of both roads on July 9. Please plan accordingly because we know these roads lead to popular hiking areas.

People with homes beyond the gates will have access.

The Chelan crew is paving a crossing cut out on Wapato Way in downtown Manson. Plan to see one-lane, flagger-controlled traffic while the crew completes this project. The crew also will be grading on Bear Mountain Road.

The Entiat crew will be doing shoulder work on Entiat River Road, above milepost 20. If you come upon the crew working, slow down to keep everyone safe.

The Leavenworth crew continues to work in the White River Road area, ditching, cutting brush and cleaning culverts. The Wenatchee crew will be cleaning culverts and ditches across the district, and the Cashmere crew will be cutting brush around the district, including around bridges. As time allows, the crew will be repairing potholes, too.

From WSDOT: US 2 bridge repairs and paving work near Cashmere to close lanes from June until October. Work starts Monday.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin with the repairs of the signal system at US 2 and Dryden Avenue/Johnson Road. Side roads will be closed once the signal is disconnected for repairs and a detour will be available.

After one week of signal work, it will be followed by four weeks of repairs on six bridges located within the project limits of US 2 between milepost 104, at the US 2 and US 97 interchange, and milepost 110, 1 mile west of the Cashmere city limits. Working hours will be 24 hours a day from Sunday nights to Friday mornings. All lanes will reopen at noon on Fridays.

Contractor crews will set traffic control on the bridges scheduled for repairs. During the closures, one lane of US 2 will remain open in each direction. The speed limit will be lowered to 45 mph.

Work on each bridge deck will include scraping off the existing asphalt and waterproof membrane, repairing damage to the concrete bridge deck below the existing asphalt, and repaving and placing a new waterproof seal.

Roadway paving
The next phase will mostly occur at night when the contractor begins paving US 2 in both directions. This work is expected to begin in late July and last through October, Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Contractor crews will grind out a single lane of the existing asphalt before paving with fresh asphalt. This will leave a smooth driving surface that will preserve the roadway for years to come.

Paving of the US 2 and US 97 ramps on the east side of the interchange will also be included in this project.

Travelers will encounter an enforceable reduced speed limit on US 2 from 60 to 50 mph. Travelers should expect single-lane closures in either direction and increased travel times.

That's our new Durapatcher! It's a more efficient way to patch all those super-thin potholes where cold mix just doesn't seem to last long. It's similar to skip patching but a small crew can operate it, and we don't have to take the oil distributor and chip box out.

Today, we were joined by crews from WSDOT and Douglas County, WA, Government to get some training on the Durapatcher. (Cool name!) You may even see it on Entiat River Road next week!

Think of it as a portable chip seal operation that is more efficient and will provide longer-lasting patches, especially in our high-trafficked areas like the Chumstick Highway.
