Today we celebrate America’s Independence Day, marking the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 (250 years ago!)—when the 13 colonies declared their freedom from Great Britain.

🎉 Fun Facts:

🎆The first Fourth of July celebration included public readings of the Declaration, bonfires, and parades.

🎇Fireworks became a traditional part of the holiday as early as 1777, symbolizing “patriotic celebration.”

🎆John Adams believed the day would be remembered “with pomp, parade, shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other.”

🎇The American flag we recognize today wasn’t official until 1777, and the current design with 50 stars was finalized in 1960.
