Before a dog is brought to a dog park, he or she should have some basic training.

Why? Well, presumably you want to leave after some period of time, preferably with your dog, right?!

If you can’t call your dog to you, you may be in the dog park for much longer than you planned as your dog continues to enjoy playing… and staying away from you.

If any sort of trouble breaks out, you want to be able to call your dog to you and away from whatever is going wrong.

If your own dog starts to get a little out of control, you should be able to call her over and have her settle down, or be able to easily take her out of the park.

Most or all of these skills can be learned if you attend group dog training classes, the format used by most trainers.

You want your dog to gain some experience at being under control and to pay attention to you in the presence of other dogs.
