In the time from the first centerlines in 1917 until 1954, debates went back and forth as to the correct color to use, with Oregon being the last to agree with the rest of the states. At that time, they all agreed to divide the center of highways with white lines.

Not all railroad crossings are outfitted with crossing gates, but many do contain symbols painted on the roadway. Can you remember the symbol for a railroad crossing? That would be a large X, often with an "R" on either side of it.
