Today three members of blue shift made an appearance at Vortex Pickleball where they were hosting a tournament in honor of Mike McGuire. A little over a year ago, Mike suffered sudden cardiac arrest secondary to a heart attack while playing a game here. Thanks to quick actions from bystanders Mike is here today to participate in the tournament! They quickly called 911, obtained an on-site AED, and started CPR. After one shock with the AED, Mike’s pulse returned and he was regaining consciousness right as our crews arrived on scene. Our crew worked quickly to stabilize Mike and ultimately transport him to a cardiac cath lab for life saving care. Three of the five paramedics on scene that day were able to meet Mike and his family, and give a brief introduction to AED use to the crowd in attendance. There is no doubt, that Mike is here with us today thanks to the brave bystanders who acted to save his life!
