Don't be that dog owner. Teach your children to respect animals. Climbing on them is not respectful and can seriously injure your dog. One of the primary reasons we receive calls to relinquish the family dog is that he lashed out at a child. We know there are always two sides to that story. Your dog deserves as much respect as any other family member.

“He’s so good with the kids… he lets them do anything to him.”

It’s one of the most common things we hear from families.

But here’s the question: Should they have to?

A dog who quietly tolerates climbing, hugging, grabbing, or being disturbed isn’t necessarily enjoying those interactions. Many dogs communicate their discomfort in subtle ways long before they ever growl—and when those signals are missed, both dogs and children are put at risk.
