Before he built a fortune or crossed an ocean, Silas Deane was a blacksmith's son from Groton, CT. By the July of 1776 he was in Paris, America’s lone diplomat working in secret to arm a revolution he didn't yet know had been formally declared. His grit and guile helped to shape the nation now celebrating 250 years, his intrepid spirit and determination precursors to values we still hold dear.
