The Feelings Wheel is one of the simplest — and most powerful — tools we have.
Most people stop at:
“I’m stressed.”
“I’m fine.” or "Things are good"
“I’m overwhelmed.”
But those aren’t core emotions. They’re summaries.
When you slow down and get specific, everything shifts:
- Stressed → Anxious? Pressured? Insecure?
- Angry → Hurt? Disrespected? Powerless?
- Overwhelmed → Afraid? Inadequate? Unsupported?
The more precisely you can name what you’re feeling, the more effectively you can respond instead of react.
High performers often try to outwork their emotions.
Leaders often try to override them.
Treat emotional clarity like a performance skill.
Save this. Use it this week.
Ask yourself: What am I actually feeling right now? and then... ALLOW yourself to feel the feeling before you move on with your day.
