SUNDAY SEVERE RISK

WHERE: Northern through central Kansas.
WHEN: 6 PM through 4 AM
WHAT: Damaging Winds, Large Hail, Possible Tornadoes

Another round of storms is expected this afternoon from northern through central Kansas. Areas north of I-70 have the highest chance due to better storm coverage. All hazards are possible, including a few tornadoes.

South of the I-70 Corridor, the cap will be stronger. The cap is a layer of warm air a few thousand feet above the ground that works to suppress clouds from growing into thunderstorms. Despite the cap, we will have otherwise very favorable conditions for storms to become severe.

If a storm can get established and reach a mature stage, it will pose the same threats as storms farther north. Large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado threat.
