Surprise! We have a fledgling to introduce! 🪶

A tawny frogmouth chick has fledged from the nest, and guests may spot this little one perched near its parents in our Australia habitat.

This hatch is especially exciting because it marks the first time this pair has successfully raised their own young. As first-time parents, they had some extra support along the way. Keepers provided supplemental feedings and conducted daily weight checks early on to ensure the chick was growing right on track.

Overall, the parents have done a good job and remain attentive and watchful as their chick gains more independence and starts navigating the world on its own.

We're excited to share that African elephant, Simunye, is pregnant! 🎉 Approaching the halfway point of her 22-month pregnancy, she has about a year to go before her calf arrives next summer.

You may remember Simunye's journey of both joy and heartbreak last year. She was the first of five elephants in our herd to give birth, but sadly, her calf Malaika did not survive.

Since then, Simunye has continued to be a very important member of the herd. As the only experienced mother - she's also mom to Titan, who moved to Atlanta last year - she has been a trusted guide for the first-time moms and a caring presence for the calves. 🧡

Our elephant care team and veterinary staff are monitoring Simunye closely, and we're happy to report that both mom and calf are healthy and the pregnancy is progressing well.

We're looking forward to seeing this new little one join its big brothers and sisters next summer!
