One year ago, Cami Ewing joined WDM. Shortly after, a mysterious tragedy struck: her lunch disappeared from the office fridge.

After a firmwide investigation email, it was eventually discovered that the cleaning crew had mistakenly thrown it away — but by then, the legend of “Cami’s Lunch” had already begun.

Since then, custom sticky notes declaring “NO TOUCHY — CAMI’S LUNCH” have appeared, a principal retaliated by labeling nearly everything in the fridge as “Cami’s Lunch,” and now, while she’s on vacation, her entire workstation has been covered in Post-its labeling “Cami’s Chair,” “Cami’s Phone,” and “Cami’s Snack.”

In all seriousness, Cami has been a fantastic addition to the WDM team. As Scott Ramser says: “Cami has been a great addition to our team! She came to WDM with a great attitude and is rapidly developing her skills and knowledge. As an added bonus, her interpretation of my scribbles has been remarkable!”

We’re glad you stuck around, Cami — and we promise nobody touched your lunch today. Probably.

Three photos, one shared passion: preserving the places that bring communities together.

This week, WDM Architects principals Stan Landwehr, AIA and Luke Scott, AIA joined Danielle Schmidt in Concordia for the quarterly meeting of the Kansas Historic Theatre Association—hosted inside the beautifully restored Brown Grand Theatre. Built in 1907 and inspired by Ford’s Theatre (where President Lincoln was shot), the space is a powerful reminder of how historic architecture continues to shape cultural identity.
A highlight of the visit was hearing from Amy Lange, Concordia, Kansas City Manager, who shared how partnerships between cities and nonprofits can revive historic theaters—boosting tourism while strengthening local arts communities.
WDM’s involvement with KHTA is rooted in that same belief. From WDM’s ongoing work at the Wichita Orpheum Theatre and Midland Theater in Coffeyville, to finished projects at the Fox Theatre Fox in Atchison, and Richardson Auditorium at Southwestern College in Winfield, our team is committed to preserving these irreplaceable spaces.

A big "thank you" goes out to Melissa Swenson, Executive Director of the Brown Grand Theatre, for hosting the meeting and giving us a fascinating guided tour.

Because when we invest in historic theaters, we’re investing in the stories, culture, and communities they continue to serve.
