Homelessness is complex, but the solution is not.

Across the country and here in the Cape Fear region, proven housing programs are helping people move from crisis into stability. Rapid Rehousing helps individuals and families move quickly out of shelter and back into housing by providing short-term rental assistance, help with move-in costs, and case management. Permanent Supportive Housing provides long-term housing and wraparound support for chronically homeless individuals with significant disabilities.

At Good Shepherd, we see the impact of these solutions every day.

A safe place to sleep matters. A hot meal matters. Shelter matters. But the goal cannot stop there.

The goal is housing.

When communities invest in programs that help people move into homes of their own, we reduce homelessness in a real and lasting way. We help neighbors stabilize. We support health, dignity, and long-term housing stability. And we build a stronger community for everyone.

This week, we're celebrating and thanking Matt Thompson as he concludes his recent term of service on Good Shepherd Center's Board of Directors.

Matt's connection to Good Shepherd began more than 20 years ago as one of the first volunteers in our Night Shelter. Over the years, his commitment to our mission has taken many forms, from hands-on service to organizing fundraising events to Board leadership and advocacy, always grounded in a genuine desire to support our neighbors experiencing homelessness and hunger.

While his role may be changing, the impact of his dedication over the past two decades will continue to be felt in the lives of countless individuals and families served by Good Shepherd Center.

Happily for us, Matt will continue in his role as President of Lakeside Partners, providing leadership for Good Shepherd’s growing supportive housing offerings for the chronically homeless.
