New Hanover County Fire Rescue

Members of New Hanover County Fire Rescue Station 14 recently attended the Porters Neck Village Employee Wellness Fair, where they provided hands-on fire extinguisher training and educated employees on proper fire extinguisher use and fire safety practices.

Community education and prevention remain an important part of our mission as we continue working to keep our community safe through outreach and preparedness.

This is a reminder that state and local burn bans are still in effect.

Two quick things about fire:

1. See smoke? You may be seeing drifts from an active wildfire in Marion County (NE SC). Don't be alarmed. Just be aware and mindful of your surroundings. Air quality will be slightly degraded while the haze persists, so take precautions for those with respiratory conditions.

2. This is a good time to remind everyone that the local burn ban in still in effect. This applies to all open burns in the county, including those within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. Make Smokey proud, help prevent fires, and keep our community safe.
