Have you ever opened a cabinet looking for something, only to realize it’s in a completely different part of the kitchen? Or every cabinet feels so full, you just stick the coffee mugs where they fit as you unload the dishwasher?
That’s what happens when we simply have more than our space can comfortably hold. Little by little, dishes end up in one cabinet, mugs in three different places, cookware wherever it will fit, and serving pieces tucked into random spaces. Before long, it’s hard to remember what you own, and many of those items stop getting used altogether.
For this kitchen, we started by removing over 50% of what was no longer serving the homeowner. Then we reorganized the entire kitchen into simple, functional zones. Every mug is together. Every plate is together. Cookware has one dedicated home. Everyday items are easy to reach, and everything has a logical place.
The result isn’t just a prettier kitchen—it’s one that’s easier to cook in, easier to put groceries away, and easier to keep organized because the system actually makes sense.
Side note: We didn’t ask her to part with her travel mug collection. Those memories mattered, so we displayed them on the upper shelves where they can be enjoyed without taking up everyday storage. Organizing is about choosing priorities—not getting rid of everything.
