Here's the latest on impacts from Hurricane in central NC. The greatest threat still looks to be flash flooding. 2-5" of rain (locally 5-7") is expected to the south and east of Raleigh, with 1-2" around the Triangle. Wind gusts of 30-45 mph may also cause scattered downed trees & power outages, especially in the far SE. The worst conditions will be late this evening into early tomorrow morning.

From Duke Energy

Good morning,

Our teams are carefully monitoring the cold front moving through our area this morning. We’re seeing winds up to 55 mph bringing a higher risk of widespread power outages across the state. Currently, there are 91 customer outages in Wilson County.

Our crews were prepared and are responding – however, these conditions also make power restoration especially challenging and difficult – and the continuing high winds continue to complicate restoration efforts. We are determined to do everything possible to restore everyone’s power as quickly and safely as possible and want you to stay safe as well. With below-freezing temperatures on the horizon, we’ve encouraged customers to prepare through web and email updates, supplemental texts and outbound call communications.

We’ve also reached out to medical alert and critical care customers asking them to consider in advance the actions they would take if they were to lose power for an extended period.

As the Governor stated in his press conference, NC Emergency Management is poised to assist local jurisdictions.

That said, County Emergency Management agencies across the state are working with their local partners to manage impacts locally and regionally. The bulk of emergency response during these events is managed at the local level. Local 911 Centers, local law enforcement, local fire departments, local EMS providers and local Emergency Management, and other local response partners...these agencies take the lead in these responses. Also, search and rescue teams, swift water rescue teams, and incident management teams, are primarily local resources that deploy to help their fellow North Carolinians.

Emergencies and disasters begin, and end, at the Local level.
