🚨 Popular Misconceptions About Business “Write-Offs” 🚨

Just because you own a business doesn’t automatically make something a tax deduction. 😅

A few common misconceptions I hear often:

❌ Your entire personal vehicle payment
(Usually only the business-use portion may qualify)

❌ Every meal you eat
(It generally needs to be business-related with proper documentation)

❌ Regular everyday clothing
(If you can wear it outside of work, it’s usually not deductible)

❌ Family vacations labeled as “business trips”
(The IRS expects legitimate business purpose and records)

❌ Groceries for your house
(Home office snacks don’t count as office supplies 😬)

❌ Personal Amazon shopping
(Just because it was bought on the business card doesn’t automatically make it deductible)

The truth is:
✔️ Good bookkeeping matters
✔️ Documentation matters
✔️ Understanding the difference between personal and business expenses matters

One of the biggest things I help business owners with is keeping things organized and clean throughout the year so tax time is less stressful and there are fewer surprises.

When in doubt…ask your bookkeeper or accountant BEFORE spending the money. It can save you a lot of headaches later.
