Reaching out to ASL-ITP based programs for students learning ASL and/or interpreting to share a heads up about accessible Presidential Debates coming up!
------EMAIL------
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to invite your program to share an exciting opportunity with your students that will enhance their understanding of interpreting in action and broaden their experience within the Deaf community.
DPAN.tv is once again hosting a groundbreaking event during the upcoming 2024 debates. In 2020, they provided an unprecedented interpreting team of both Deaf and hearing interpreters working together to make the debates accessible to the Deaf community. The response was historic, with significant engagement and participation. This year, DPAN.tv will once again be featuring three Deaf and hearing interpreter teams for the debates, including Regina Daniels, Jay Krieger, April Jackson, and Arkady Belozovsky.
We believe this event is particularly valuable for ASL students and students studying to become interpreters because it provides a real-time example of how professional interpreters collaborate to provide access. Watching Deaf and hearing interpreters work together on such a large platform is not only a learning opportunity but also a chance for students to see how impactful accessible communication is on a national level.
We kindly ask that you share the attached flyer with your students and encourage them to tune in to experience access happening in real time. They can tune in to the debates via any of the following platforms:
DPAN.tv: https://DPAN.tv
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/dpanvideos
Facebook: www.facebook.com/DPANTV
Your support in distributing this flyer will help your students not only connect with the broader interpreting community but also understand the critical role interpreters play in fostering inclusivity. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like further information.
Thank you for your time, and we hope your students find this experience enriching.
Warmly, Regan
