Food is Medicine programs in Massachusetts not only promote optimal health but also have a significant economic impact. By participating in the Medicaid 1115 Demonstration Waiver, Massachusetts can expand Medicaid eligibility and implement supportive programs and services.

This waiver is essential for piloting food-based initiatives that reduce food insecurity among Medicaid recipients. Furthermore, by targeting low-income populations with higher rates of chronic diseases, the initiative helps reduce healthcare costs and fosters a more equitable health system. This approach not only improves individual well-being but also alleviates the financial burden on the state's healthcare system.
