Call it a heat dome, a heat wave or a midsummer meltdown, every summer people across the country face periods of extreme heat. Stay cool and stay hydrated! You can prevent heat illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, which is a life-threatening condition. If you or someone you know else is suffering from dizziness, heavy sweating or nausea, move to a cooler area and drink small amounts of water. If they exhibit more severe symptoms of confusion or if the person becomes unconscious, call 911. Never ever leave young children, disabled people or pets locked in a car.
