4 Ways to Engage Your Pelvic Floor at Pure Barre ๐Ÿ”ฅ โ
Your core isn't just your abs โ€” it's your powerhouse. Strengthen from the inside out with these targeted moves that focus on deep core and pelvic floor engagement:โ
โ
๐Ÿ”ฅ Squat โ€“ Using the barre for support, step your feet slightly wider than hip width with your toes facing forward. As you squat down, breathe in to brace and engage your deep core muscles (e.g your pelvic floor) and exhale as you stand. Think of pulling your hips directly underneath your shoulders at the top of the movement with length through the front of the hips, rather than pressing your pelvis forward. โ
โ
๐Ÿ”ฅ Tuck Release โ€“ Have a seat on the floor, and place your legs in front of you with your knees bent and feet flexed. Round your torso back toward the floor until you feel your abs โ€œcatchโ€; from there, tuck your hips under then release back to a neutral posture. Think of your hips as a bowl of water; spill the bowl backward toward your abs. Again, use your breath and think exhale to tuck and inhale to return to neutral. For additional core engagement, use the double tube around the barre to press into and engage your upper abs for additional benefit! โ
โ
๐Ÿ”ฅ Foldover โ€“ Stand arms distance away from the barre and walk back to fold in half with your feet directly underneath your hips (avoid stepping too far back). Keep your feet hip width apart to Extend one leg straight behind you. Soften the bend in your standing leg and pull your abs in (think TUCK), then pull your knee in toward your chest and extend it away. โ
โ
๐Ÿ”ฅGlute Bridge โ€“ Lie flat on the floor and place a ball between your thighs. Bend your knees with flat feet, then squeeze your seat to lift your hips up slowly and lower back down. As you move, squeeze the ball as you squeeze your seat, and focus on maintaining connection through the ribs; keep your full core activated throughout. โ
Want to take your core engagement to the next level? Join us at the barre and experience ways to strengthen your pelvic floor in all four class formats. โ
