🪼 Could YOU Be Any More Wrong? 😄
Remember that unforgettable Friends episode when Monica gets stung by a jellyfish on the beach... and they decide the solution is to p*e on the sting? While it made for hilarious TV, it's definitely not real first aid. 🚫
Tip of the Day from the DCHD!
If you're stung by a jellyfish this summer, here's what you should do instead:
✅ Rinse the area with seawater (never fresh water).
✅ Carefully remove any visible tentacles using tweezers or gloved hands.
✅ Apply vinegar or rubbing alcohol (except for Portuguese man-of-war stings).
✅ Help ease pain with calamine lotion, hydrocortisone cream, an ice pack, or hot water.
❌ Don't p*e on the sting. Despite the popular myth, urine doesn't neutralize the venom and it may actually make the sting more painful.
Most jellyfish stings can be treated at home and ease after a few hours, but seek medical care right away if the person has trouble breathing, severe pain, widespread swelling, or signs of an allergic reaction.
A little beach knowledge can go a long way toward keeping your summer safe! 🌊☀️
