We remember and honor the brave American Red Cross “Donut Dollies.”
During the Vietnam War, these young American women volunteered to serve where comfort and hope were needed most. Traveling by helicopters, trucks, and jeeps, they visited remote bases and active combat zones, bringing a small piece of home to soldiers facing the realities of war every day.
They carried no weapons and wore no combat gear. Instead, they brought conversation, laughter, music, games, and compassion. For many service members, those brief moments of normalcy became a powerful reminder that they were not forgotten.
The Donut Dollies listened to fears, shared encouragement, and lifted spirits during some of the darkest moments of the war. Their mission was simple but extraordinary: to bring comfort where there was uncertainty and hope where there was hardship.
Their dedication, courage, and selfless service left a lasting impact on countless American soldiers.

We remember and honor Corporal Jennifer Marie Parcell.
Jennifer was only 20 years old when she gave her life serving her country in Iraq. A Marine with the III Marine Expeditionary Force, she volunteered for the Lioness Program, a dangerous mission that placed female Marines on the front lines, working closely with Iraqi women and families in combat zones.
On February 7, 2007, during operations in Barwanah, Iraq, a su***de bomber attacked her unit. In the middle of the chaos, Jennifer acted to protect the Marines around her. She was killed in the explosion.
At an age when most young people were just beginning their adult lives, Jennifer chose service, courage, and sacrifice. She became one of the few female Marines lost during the Global War on Terror.
Though her name may not be widely known, her bravery and selflessness will never be forgotten.
