One of our favorite parts of coaching young athletes is getting a front row seat to watch them fall in love with the game of baseball.

Brantley brings so much joy to every session — he can’t wait to get into the cage or start his pitching program each week. He’s always eager to talk about the Phillies’ latest games and his favorite players, Jhoan Duran and Josh Hader, before getting to work.

Baseball is a challenging game, it’s easy to get caught up nitpicking every single rep and only settling for the perfect result. It’s been awesome to watch Brantley buy into “The Process” — trusting that we’re taking daily steps toward the end goal and celebrating the small wins along the way.

The Process isn’t always a straight line up. Teaching young athletes how to handle adversity is one of the most valuable life lessons this game offers. That might look like a tough outing on the mound, striking out with the game on the line, or making an error in the field — but each moment is an opportunity to grow.

There’s something special about youth baseball — the beauty of it lies in watching these players develop a true work ethic, learn to face adversity fearlessly, and play with a pure love for the game that reminds us all why we started.
