We are 124 today! ZFD was established on May 6, 1902. Drop a comment if you have an idea on how we should celebrate 125 next year!

IDNR has announced that they will be conducting another prescribed burn today (Monday March 9) at the NORTH end of the state park (near Camp Logan, Northpoint Marina, & Winthrop Harbor). Please be aware that there may be large plumes of smoke in the area again, but it will be under control and no need to call 9-1-1 or City Hall.

Two big accomplishments to recognize this week - two of our newer hires successfully completing their one-year probationary period. Congrats to FF/P’s Madalyn & Matthew; one year completed of what should be a long, rewarding and safe career with ZFRD!

There are many resources available from FEMA, USFA and other safety-minded groups, but as our midwestern winter weather continues, please review a few of these safety tips. As always, feel free to send us a message or stop by if you have any questions on safely navigating this challenging time of year! (And please check our previous post about warming center options and using resources like 2-1-1 if you are in need of assistance.)

We hope everyone is staying warm and safe during this stretch of frigid winter weather! Here are a few warming center options in case you find yourself without heat. And as Mayor McKinney mentions at many City Council meetings, if you are in need of assistance (with this or many other matters), the United Way 2-1-1 phone line may be able to help!
