Robert De Niro was born on August 17, 1943, in New York City, into an artistic family. He began his career in the 1960s and rose to prominence with roles in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), Mean Streets (1973), and especially The Godfather Part II (1974), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He continued to impress with Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980 – Best Actor Oscar), Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023). Beyond acting, he co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival, the global Nobu restaurant chain, and is a vocal advocate for social justice, arts education, and climate action. With over 60 years of dedication, De Niro stands as a living icon of cinematic excellence and civic responsibility.

It-Is-Him. Otoe. 1907

SITTING BULL (Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake), a Hunkpapa Lakota (Sioux) holy man, was instrumental in gathering large numbers of Cheyenne and Sioux in 1876 for safety in numbers. He told the Hunkpapa to share food and supplies with those who joined them in Eastern Montana. The “unity camp” reached a population of 6,000 to perhaps 10,000.

Sitting Bull, about 45 at the time and weakened from the Sun Dance (involving fasting and body piercing), did not fight in the Battle of the Little Bighorn (Custer's Last Stand) on June 25, 1876. He helped women and children escape the intended attack on the village. The photo was published 50+ years ago as a colored postcard by Coffrin Studio in Miles City, Montana.

Jack Coffrin leased the glass-plate negatives of Old West photographer L.A. Huffman, and produced various photographs and postcards of from them. This was among the very few images not by Huffman. Although credited to D.F. Barry, the portrait was like made by O.S. Goff, Barry's employer.
