Ba Be Lake and Ban Gioc Waterfall are two famous eco-tourism attractions in the northeast of Vietnam. Traveling to these places, you can both enjoy breath-taking natural sceneries and join several adventurous activities.

Ba Be Lake is the largest natural lake in Vietnam and the heart of Ba Be National Park. This place contains many lakes, waterfalls, caves, and rock formations. The whole area is richly forested and is home to many ethnic minority communities. Traveling on a boat around Ba Be Lake, visitors can take photos of breath-taking sceneries of the surrounding karsts decorated with wild plantation.

Located on the border between two countries, Vietnam and China, Ban Gioc is the most beautiful waterfall in Vietnam. It is also the world’s 4th largest waterfall with half in Vietnam and the other half in China. The waterfall attracts visitors in every season; however, it is suggested that the period from September to October is the best time to visit this jaw-dropping attraction.

What to do in Hanoi Old Quarter?

Hanoi Old Quarter consists of several commercial streets around the Hoan Kiem Lake area, which were named after their traditional products sold by craftsmen dating about 1,000 years. This is considered the cultural and historical hub of the city.

Here are things you must try when visiting Hanoi Old Quarter:

1️⃣ Discover the local life around Hoan Kiem Lake: Along the banks of the lake, travelers can find the locals jogging, exercising and enjoying a coffee. This peaceful lake is associated with a legend when Emperor Le Loi returned the sword to God after using it to defeat the Chinese invaders.
2️⃣ Take a walking tour around the old streets: The Old Quarter is a combination of traditional architecture with Buddhist pagodas and ancient house and French-colonial buildings. Tourists can also see many coffee shops, galleries, restaurants, and bars in the area. You can purchase some souvenirs and crafts in traditional shops here.
3️⃣ Watch a water puppet show: Water puppet is a Vietnamese traditional art that tells stories of our historical heroes and spiritual life. You can enjoy water puppet shows at Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre.
4️⃣ Take a photo of St. Joseph’s Cathedral of Hanoi: Located in the heart of the Old Quarter, St. Joseph’s Cathedral (Nha Tho Lon) is one of the oldest colonial buildings in Hanoi. The cathedral was built in 1886 and inspired by Notre Dame de Paris.
5️⃣ Sampling local food: It is impossible to stroll around the Old Quarter without detecting the appealing smell of local cuisine from the street vendors. Some dishes we recommend in this area are Pho, Bun cha (Vermicelli Noodles with Grilled Pork), Goi cuon (fresh spring rolls) and Banh Mi (Vietnamese baguettes).
6️⃣ Get social and drink beer on the street: Ta Hien Street in the Old Quarter is famous for its nightlife where locals, expats and tourists gather and enjoy a beer together. It is a popular destination for party lovers when coming to Hanoi.
