Think carefully about the technology that appears in your photos. If models are using a specific smartphone, tablet, or laptop and you license those images for long term or perpetual use, that technology can date the image surprisingly fast.
Smartphones are usually the biggest issue. New models come out every year and designs change constantly. A phone that looks current today can make a photo feel outdated just a few years later.
Of course, we understand that in certain scenes, especially business or working scenarios, a laptop or tablet can make sense and help tell the story. These devices tend to have a longer visual shelf life, especially when branding isn’t obvious.
A good photographer can also help minimize the problem with creative angles and framing that reduce how much of the device is visible.
When we produce shoots for hotels, we often recommend minimizing visible technology whenever possible, especially phones, and focusing more on the guest experience and environment. Those elements stay timeless and help protect the value of your marketing investment.
