What a trip wandering around this place. I came to this site in 2007, and there was nothing here except a few glistening new sculptures by the lake. In the years that followed, this water park β a Seaworld of sorts β was built and opened but clearly fell on hard times. I don't think I've been to a more surreal place. What memories remain here? Who knows? It was fascinating to be there π»π±

The basket boats of Vietnam have become something of a tourist ride in Hα»i An. You can hop in for a tour of the coconut forest not far from town, and be taken for a spin β literally if your boatman is skilled enough. They'll take you on a wild 360 vomotron, just when you thought it was going to be a leisurely paddle through the lush greenery. It's jet-boating, Viet style ππ»π³
My second trip to Vietnam has been a long time coming, but I'm so happy to be back here. It's as wonderful as I remember from almost 10 years ago, and having alongside me this time has made it all the more magical. We've still got a lot more exploring to do, so standby for more shots from land, sea and air πΈ

We're very close to showtime for the and Stadium Australia is looking pretty as a picture π It's been 23 years since I was here preparing to cover the Sydney Olympic Games, and here I am again, coming full circle to cover another huge event, this time with FIFA. It's been a long complicated journey, but I couldn't be happier. I'm so blessed and eternally grateful for the opportunities Australia has gifted me since moving here in 1999. This tournament is going to be incredible, and I can't wait for the first kick of a ball on 20 July.

πΈ Nagakin Capsule Tower, 1972.
I'm sure like anyone lucky enough to have seen this building, I was saddened to hear of its impending deconstruction this past week. It's such an iconic structure in the Ginza district of Tokyo, and will be sorely missed by many π
Designed and built in 1972 by Kisho Kurokawa, the capsules were supposed to be switched out every 25 years, but that has proved too expensive and undertaking over the years, and sadly the building has now fallen into a state of terminal disrepair. I can tell you, as a fellow 50 year old, things start to break and you need all the love and affection you can get to stay upright π
It's sad to see buildings like this falling victim to wrecking balls all over the world. There is a far-right political movement doing its best to wipe brutalist architecture and its metabolist cousins from the face of the planet, so I can only hope there is an equally determined movement working to preserve such buildings. I'm a huge fan of them. They're so wonderfully striking and unusual, and can really transport you to another place and time.
Farewell, Nagakin. May your memory be forever cherished ππ»
