Robert De Niro was born on August 17, 1943, in New York City, into an artistic family. He began his career in the 1960s and rose to prominence with roles in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), Mean Streets (1973), and especially The Godfather Part II (1974), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He continued to impress with Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980 – Best Actor Oscar), Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023). Beyond acting, he co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival, the global Nobu restaurant chain, and is a vocal advocate for social justice, arts education, and climate action. With over 60 years of dedication, De Niro stands as a living icon of cinematic excellence and civic responsibility.

Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Depot. Miles City (Montana) lensman L.A. Huffman photographed the town’s Milwaukee Depot in probably June 1918, five months before the end of WW I. A huge crowd likely gathered to cheer the U.S. Army 63rd Coast Artillery Corps on its way to France from Puget Sound.

Known as the Milwaukee Road, the C M & ST P added Pacific to its name some years after the last spike was driven near Missoula in 1909, completing the Chicago to Pacific connection. Miles City, Montana. The underpass would flood after heavy rains (sometimes the result of spectacular thunder and lightning storms). From age seven through college summers, I lived near the underpass in the residence above Coffrin’s Old West Gallery (with the rotating American Indian and horse statues). On a couple occasions, we had to put sand bags in front of the Gallery to protect against the rising waters.

Big rig trucks would occasionally get stuck in the underpass. Sometimes the impact would produce a thundering boom.
