As we prepare for Mandela Day at Read Alex, one of the things we’re most excited about is sharing South African books in many of our country’s beautiful languages. 📚🇿🇦

This past Sunday, our small group of readers got a first look at some of the new books. Watching them pick up stories written in languages they know and love reminded us that representation matters, and that a book can open up a whole new world.

A heartfelt thank you to Jacana, New Africa and Cover2Cover for your generous donation of books. We truly appreciate your contribution. Your support is helping us put stories into the hands of children who deserve to see themselves reflected on the page, and inspiring a lifelong love of reading.

Highlights🗣

Every year, the club host a shake out run a day before ComradesMarathon ,5km run and walk only.

Most significant thing about this gathering is the prayer the club hold prior the shake out run, an elderly is usually asked to pray for everyone even those that are not present.

Why do we hold each other?

Answer: this is a sign of unity and during this moment we request members to hold the next person tightly to symbolise unity.

In 2026 this ceremony was officially held in collaboration with Run Alex from GP and we really appreciate and acknowledge these humble souls.

We thank all runners who joined this important ceremony.

In 2027, we shall bring more to this and there will definately be new exciting developments, watch the space.
