With the rain gifting us a brisk and cool day the racers gathered with prepped tires and lazer focus to tackle the track and other racers in the unrelenting hunt for maximum points! The grip was off the charts after the rains and all the classes were ready to put in laps that would defy what is possible. The On Road layout was fast and flowing with only the back straight giving the steering a breather. The Off Road layout had racers trying all manner of lines, braking points and speeds to shave time off the laps. It was tricky and very challenging! Here are the results of the day per class:
Tamiya M-Chassis
1) Ryno Pienaar - Tamiya M-05
2) Emil Beckmann - Tamiya M-05
3) Ewan Koen - Tamiya MB-01
The class had 11 cars on the grid, the first time more than 10 cars were in a heat, and the on track action was thick and fast! The Race Director made the call for a reverse grid start on the first heat and that threw a spanner in the works. After the qualifiers were done Ryno, Emil and Ewan lined up for an epic battle! Ryno walked away with the way too close for comfort win, Emil was sharing the same space on the track lap after lap and took 2nd. Ewan was the first racer to put a new MB-01 on the podium, his setup and effort showing with a solid day with a 3rd.
VRX Octane XL Buggy
1) Nico Jonker - VRX Octane XL
2) Johan Truter - VRX Octane XL
3) Jc Smit - VRX Octane XL
The new class is steadily gaining momentum and the grid is starting to look like it will by hitting double digits soon! Nico came out of nowhere with his brand new car (he took delivery of it on Friday before the race) and hit the first place out of the park with clean driving and consistency. In 2nd place was Johan, he and JC in 3rd having some hectic battles during the day! This class is one to watch, the cars are very evenly matched and the handling is interesting with the big wheels.
2wd Buggy
1) Ryno Pienaar - Team Associated B6.3
2) Brian Botha - XRAY XB2
3) Ewan Koen - Team Associated B6.3
The challenging track layout caught a few racers out, the day was there for the taking with flawless laps and consistency. Ryno hangs on to his unbeaten streak with his win but Brian was pushing his XRAY into strange positions and mounted a very strong challenge during the day to take the 2nd spot. In 3rd and within striking distance, waiting for the two in front to tangle or make mistakes, was Ewan. His consistency earning him a hard fought podium spot.
Short Course Truck
1) Christoff Meyer - Team Associated SC6.4
2) Ewan Koen - Team Associated SC6.2
3) Martin Deysel - Team Associated SC6.4
Christoff came in with wild slides and intent to secure his points lead, but the day was interwoven with massive battles with Ewan and Martin. Ewan kept his composure during all the runs and walked away with a 2nd place with battle scars to show for it. Martin with his 3rd place was pushing himself and the SC6.4 beyond what reason could manage, his skill level and nerve is increasing with each run against the more experienced war horses. The whole class was made up of battles for places up and down the grid, massively entertaining to watch!
Tamiya Stock Touring
1) JC Smit - Tamiya TT-01E
2) Francois Benade - Tamiya TT-01E
3) Nico Jonker - Tamiya TT-01E
With the Championship Points leader JC coming in to the day very confident he kept his head down and kept on slamming in fast laps to wrestle the 1st place into submission. In an alarmingly fast 2d place was Francois, his yellow Mercedes easy to spot as he was punishing his tires! In 3rd place was Nico, he was doing more than enough to take the last spot on the podium.
21.5 Spec Touring
1) Sj Coetzer - Team Associated TC7.2
2) Brian Botha - Team Associated TC8
3) Ryno Pienaar - Team Associated TC8
The Team Associated racers were pushing hard to take all the spots on the podium, and did they produce! SJ was using a TC7.2 and made the extended chassis development time count as the claimed the top spot. Brian was snapping at his heels the whole day with a 2nd. Ryno was a bit off the pace with parts testing but could hold on to 3rd.
The day showcased the passion and drive the RARC racers have for the racing and the community. Quite a few racers and regulars could not make it due to commitments with work, next month is going to be extra hectic as the racers push even harder to make up points. Entries for track events was brushing 70, the goal of 80 entries in a month is very close! The Race Shop is always looking for ways to evolve and grow the hobby, crawling and racing. As always, STAY RADIO ACTIVE!
