When a major veldfire occurs, multiple agencies often respond at the same time.

The Incident Command System (ICS) is a globally recognised management system that ensures everyone works together under a clear chain of command.

ICS helps:
✅ Keep responders and the public safe
✅ Coordinate resources effectively
✅ Improve communication between agencies
✅ Ensure incidents are managed efficiently

From firefighters and disaster management teams to aerial resources and landowners, ICS helps everyone work towards the same objectives.

🔥 Effective incident management saves lives, protects property, and supports successful veldfire suppression.

Did You Know?

We’ve all heard of “prescribed burning” — but did you know it’s also known as “ecological burning”?

In the Western Cape, fire is a natural and essential part of maintaining healthy fynbos ecosystems. Under controlled conditions, ecological burning helps to:

✅ Support fynbos regeneration
✅ Reduce invasive alien vegetation
✅ Maintain ecosystem health
✅ Help manage future veldfire risk

While prescribed burning can sometimes be misunderstood, it remains an important veldfire and conservation management tool used worldwide in fire-prone environments.

🔥 Fire, when managed correctly, is part of the solution — not only the problem.
