Hidden gems and slow-living magic in the Wellington Winelands.
Inside Guide highlights Wellington as a region of unpretentious charm, from scenic mountain trails and hidden waterfalls to restored heritage farms and artisanal food and wine experiences.
The region’s deep sense of community is embodied by places like Val du Charron Wine & Leisure Estate, a historic farm known as the “Valley of the Wagon Maker.” With a legacy in fruit growing, brandy, wine, and vine nurseries, the farm combines tradition with creativity, producing stokkies (cuttings) that support much of the Cape’s wine industry while offering authentic experiences that celebrate local culture and landscapes.
Local Intel: Wellington’s Most Magical Spots Hidden mountain valleys, authentic farm stays, long-table lunches and convivial eateries, there’s an off-the-beaten-track charm about Wellington waiting to be explored.

🐋 Southern Right Whales are mammals and calves are born alive (not from eggs) and rely heavily on their mothers for survival.
🐋 Calves drink incredibly rich milk that can contain up to 50% fat, which helps them grow rapidly.
🐋 Even at birth, they measure up to 6 meters and weigh 1.5 tonnes.
🐋 Calves stay with their mothers for up to 12 months learning vital migration routes and survival tactics.
