It’s time to declutter and refresh our bathrooms with these five tips:

Out-of-date products
The easiest way to part with products in your cluttered bathroom is to check the expiry date. Start by categorising into out-of-date (and in the bin), nearing expiry or ‘good for a while’ products. Keep the ‘nearing expiry’ products close at hand to make sure you use them up in time.

Seasonal updates
Get a transparent container and store winter products neatly together, out of the way of everyday items. At this time of year, your fragrance needs a change too – opt for a new scent to match the sunnier days and happier mood!

Effective storage
From transparent, stackable boxes to beautiful rattan baskets, you'll find storage options to suit your taste and budget. Make use of these storage items to segment products into categories i.e. face, nails, hair, legs, feet etc. to make products easier to find, and make your cupboards appear more orderly.

Clean counters
Bathroom counters so quickly become a dumping ground for grooming necessities, decor items and clutter. Take the time to completely clear your bathroom counters and make space for necessary items in the cabinet and cupboards below. Clear surfaces are easier on the eye and promote a more peaceful environment.

The 6-month test
Another easy method for clearing your bathroom is adopting the ‘6-month test’. For every item you pull out, ask yourself, “Have I used this item or product in the past 6 months?’ If the answer is no, then it’s time for it to go!

Gardening is a fantastic way to stimulate the senses, and one of the most powerful ways it does this is through fragrant plants.

Many plants are scented to attract pollinators essential for their survival, like butterflies and bees. Flowering plants, like honeysuckle and lavender, release their scent during the day when there is most natural light and temperatures are higher. These scented plants attract daytime pollinators like bees.

Other flowering plants, such as angel's trumpet (Brugmansia) and evening primrose, are pollinated by insects that are active after sunset, so they release their scent at night.

Leaf-scented herbs like rosemary, lavender, thyme and basil, release their perfume when their leaves are touched or crushed. To experience their fragrances to the full, you should plant them along pathways or as groundcovers between paving stones.

Position plants close to the areas you spend most of your time in. Plant them:
• On or next to the patio.
• Outside bedroom or study windows.
• At the entrance to your garden.
• Around a bench in your garden.

Aromatic foliage plants are perfectly positioned along a pathway where they will release their fragrance when brushed against.

Place containers with aromatic herbs next to your outdoor entertainment area, where they are easily accessible for cooking.
