Come join us as we present two new exhibitions at Michaelis Galleries () on ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜†, ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฑ ๐—ข๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฑ from ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿณ.๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿณ.๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ!

๐™„๐™ฃ ๐™จ๐™ž๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™š ๐™ฌ๐™š ๐™›๐™š๐™š๐™ก is in collaboration with the South African Foundation of Islamic Art () and unifies multiple genealogies and heritage, some of which span more than 2000 years in Africa and the Middle East, while others, like Ndebele mural art, were developed in the 19th century.

Meanwhile, ๐™‘๐™ž๐™ค๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ ๐˜ฟ๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™ข is a solo exhibition by CKR fellow and ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜, ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ถ ๐—˜๐—น๐˜€๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ (). Her exhibition explores the experience of internal exile and psychological displacement within the context of Gazaโ€™s ongoing siege and humanitarian crisis. Through four large-scale oil portraits and installation, ๐™‘๐™ž๐™ค๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ ๐˜ฟ๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™ข reflects on the personal and collective journey of survival under genocide, siege and trauma.

Professor in Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Cape Town, Nomusa Makhubu โ€“โ€“ alongside some SAFIA members and Elshaer โ€“โ€“ will give remarks to formally open both exhibitions as part of research initiative, CKR.
