Tasty treats and budget backdrops.

Food Photography is 95% mood, lighting, styling and layout. The actually technical camera skill is 5% maybe. This I learned taking these shots. My first real attempt at food photography so much more to learn as we go. Luckily I have a master baker Leeanne Pillay who is more than happy to supply me with opportunities to practice 😋

Also is a really fun way to make the mind stretch its creative muscles a bit. Pairing lighting with props and colour palettes. Mood to compliment the type of food.

Budget tip: Forget fancy backdrops, head over to China Mall and grab some marble look-alike tiles for R20.00. So many to choose from. They are a bit shiny. Next time I’m going to try a material backdrop. Waste Center or other material supplier shops in typically dodgy areas can set you up with awesome colours and textures to play with from R15/m. I’m doing the same in studio for portraits too. Save on props, spend on lenses 😄. Fools, we photographers are right?

Artist: Sleep Token
Album: Take me back to Eden
Best Song: All. (But listen to ‘Are you really okay?’ If it doesn’t make you want to cry, get your heart checked)

I have been very quiet for a while, and don’t usually do this, but…I don’t remember when last, if ever, an album has moved me this much. Must be listened to beginning to end in order Get sucked into a musical journey.

Most will judge their appearance but try not to. Their music is pure juxtaposition and metaphor. I am at awe with what these guys have achieved in breaking the boundaries of musical genres with such fluidity.

I identify with so much in this song. What do you identify with?
