β†˜οΈ Last week, paralell to the 114th Session of the ILC, we participated in a stakeholder consultation, by the ILO Actrav and InWork team on β€œBuilding pathways for the transition to formality”, with the support of Ford Foundation.

🀝 Along with other allies in the informal economy, we exchanged experiences, information, and our vision about how worker organizations can work with the ILO to ensure decent work for all and a rights-based transition to the formal economy at international and national levels.

πŸ“˜ Our 2025 Global Report is out!

Available in English, French, Spanish and Russian 🌍

One of the report's key messages is clear:

❀️ When workers organize, lives change.

Across the StreetNet network, collective organizing continues to deliver real results for street and market vendors:

🀝 39 organizations negotiated with authorities
πŸ“„ 19 organizations secured new licenses or legal victories
🌱 61% are involved in social and solidarity economy initiatives
🌍 31 impact stories were documented across 21 countries

From childcare centers and savings groups to licensing victories and stronger representation, these achievements demonstrate the power of workers coming together to defend their rights and improve their livelihoods.

✊🏽 Collective power creates real change.

Street vendors are workers. Recognize us.

Position Paper: Advancing Inclusive Social Dialogue for Street Vendors and Informal Economy Workers - Streetnet International 02/06/2026

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡ The International Labour Conference (ILC) is starting!

As governments, employers, and workers gather in Geneva to shape the future of work, StreetNet is bringing the voices and demands of street and market vendors to the table ✊🏽

Our new position paper, "Advancing Inclusive Social Dialogue for Street Vendors and Informal Economy Workers", calls for the recognition of informal economy workers as legitimate participants in social dialogue, collective bargaining, and policy-making processes.

For street vendors, meaningful formalization must include rights, representation, social protection, and access to negotiation spaces β€” not exclusion or criminalization. These priorities are increasingly recognized within global discussions on formalization and decent work.
