KZN FILM COMMISSION TRAINING PROGRAMME 2017
TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE WITHIN THE KWAZULU-NATAL FILM COMMISSION.
The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission (KZNFC) is an entity established in terms of the KwaZulu-Natal Film
Commission Act, 2010. The Commission has been set up with its main vision being to position KwaZulu-Natal as
a globally competitive, diverse and sustainable industry and choice film destination.
Background
The KZN Film Commission aims to enhance the economy by providing and encouraging opportunities for persons,
especially from disadvantaged communities to enter and participate in the film industry in the province. In so
doing, it aims to contribute to an enabling environment to job creation and transformation. A baseline study was
conducted in 2015 highlighting the skills gap in the KZN industry. The KZNFC is responding to the need for skills
in CAMERA AND LIGHTING; AND PRODUCTION ACCOUNTING.
Training Programme 1– CAMERA AND LIGHTING FOR FILM AND TELEVISION. REF: HCD/CL/2017
The Camera and Lighting for Film and TV Course embraces the principles of cinematography to enhance the
participant’s knowledge and skills to produce their own 3-5 minute film. The Programme runs for eight weeks
with workshops, self-study and practical work. The programme is at no cost to the selected participants.
Training Programme 2– PRODUCTION ACCOUNTING FOR FILM AND TELEVISION. REF: HCD/PA/2017
The Production Accounting Course aims to bridge the gap for filmmakers to understand budgets for
film productions, preparing schedules and managing the day to day accounting financial reporting against the
budgets. The programme runs for 10 days with workshops, self-study and practical work. The programme is at no
cost to the selected participants.
Requirements
• Candidate must be over the ages of 18 years.
• Candidate must come from a previously disadvantage background and preference is given to Women,
Youth and People with disabilities.
• Candidate must have been exposed to film production for more than two (2) years.
• Candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills.
