Lake Sneeuberg - Wild trout of the Karoo. 26/06/2014

Lake Sneeuberg is now open to visiting anglers under the guidance of experienced anglers and offer those lucky enough to visit this area the opportunity to fish for hard fighting rainbow trout in spectacular surroundings. A small section of the Buffels river is also available to fish and the larger pools hold some really good sized trout eagerly taking a well presented fly.

The waters are managed by the Sneeuberg Aquatic Conservancy based in Murraysburg whose members are eager fly-fishers highlighting the potential of the great fishing in the area.

Bryan Williams from Johannesburg joined me for some fishing today and although the fishing was difficult with lots spooky fish around Bryan still managed to land a few good sized carp. The Mullet were nowhere to be seen but with a few weeks of fishing still ahead of us there is still a chance to target and hook one of those silver bullets.

Eddie Mortimer and Tim van Heerden joined me for some great fishing on the Nqweba dam in Graaff-Reinet and for 4 days they caught too many fish to count. It was a fantastic trip and greatly enjoyed by all. The water was very dirty due to recent rains but the fish was very eager to take a well placed fly. Now is the time to be on the water and I am pretty sure someone is going to hook a huge Mullet soon as they are very active and can be seen as they feed and move in shallow water, making it possible to present a fly to a sighted fish.
