On the weekend of 3 and 4 July, the Overstrand Learning Hub (OLH) played host to the very first Elegance and Grace Pop-Up Market in Hermanus!
Amazing vendors, great finds and good vibes. ✨
What an incredible weekend it was as our venue came alive with talented entrepreneurs, delicious food, unique handmade products and a wonderful community atmosphere. Visitors had the opportunity to browse an exciting variety of stalls featuring clothing, shoes, pottery, jewellery, accessories, gourmet treats and so much more.
A huge congratulations to Sasha, owner of Elegance and Grace, for successfully organising her very first pop-up market in Hermanus. We are proud that OLH could be the venue for this exciting community event and look forward to seeing it grow from strength to strength.

It was wonderful to see a mix of talented local Hermanus businesses alongside vendors who travelled from further afield to be part of this special market.
A special word of appreciation goes to our three OLH students—Bernice, Davino and Luntu—who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, assisting vendors with setting up, packing away and ensuring everything ran smoothly throughout the weekend. Your willingness to serve and your positive attitude did not go unnoticed!

On Saturday 20 June, as Student Representatives we attended a leadership workshop at Volmoed in the Hemel en Aarde Valley, where the fresh air and peaceful surroundings away from the busy town of Hermanus made it feel like the perfect reset.
Professor De Gruchy delivered an inspiring, thought-provoking talk on ethical leadership that gave us real insight into leading with integrity and purpose. We later dived into the Six Thinking Hats technique in a group activity — great for sharing different perspectives when problem solving.
A highlight for everyone was a fun, messy team challenge: building the tallest freestanding tower using only newspaper and masking tape. There was a lot of laughter and even the team whose tower toppled over learnt a lot about problem-solving and collaboration.
As a group with the tutors who are Year Coordinators, we had meaningful conversations about leadership, change, uncertainty, and plans for the future. The day was productive and enjoyable — we left feeling inspired and motivated to develop our leadership skills further.
