The Big Byte

MASSIVE software updates are scheduled to drop for essentially ALL Apple devices starting sometime today, the 19th of September.

Apple staggers how and when they make users aware and the updates themselves available, but the possibilities all open up starting, essentially, now.

In all cases the versions arriving now offer SIGNIFICANT changes and as such could potentially come with unintended consequences and bugs as they have had no time whatsoever to mature.

Our recommendation right now is to wait for at least two weeks before committing to installing the new software.

Our offices will be testing what we can over the next few weeks and will thereafter be able to provide more informed advice on the reliability and stability thereof.
In addition, our offices are closed until Thursday the 26th of September, and as such technical support for anyone experiencing problems of any kind will be unavailable locally until then.

Well everyone, it's that time of year again!!!

Apple has JUST had it's big iPhone event for the year, announcing 3 new pretty, pretty-powerful phones for the next year - all of which look very, very nice (though we are certainly going to be crying about our bank accounts for a bit)!

Along with the hardware announcements has come the release of the latest and greatest, significant, iOS update - iOS v.12.0

Now please be careful people - this is a BIG update with MANY changes, and as per usual we don't recommend you jump at the opportunity immediately - bit the bullet and wait a few weeks.
We here at The Big Byte along with many others around the world will be testing the release and within a week or two will have experiential-based recommendations for you!

Apologies folks! We never got back to the page after testing updates to announce our findings and recommendations...

So. The short version: The most recent versions are solid, and dependable. Load ‘em up if convenient. Though, as long as you’re not too far behind, they aren’t what we’d call crucial updates either.

MAJOR version changes are about to drop - within the next month we expect to see all the latest and greatest software releases from Apple. But, as per our usual stance, don’t jump at loading them unless you have a very specific want / need - at least until you hear us weigh in on them!
