Mika van der Westhuizen, Logan Foye and coach Rico Roos took part in the 2026 South African Open Chess Championship at the DF Akademie High School in Bellville from 27 June to 5 July.

The nine-day tournament featured main and junior sections, as well as a blitz tournament, competing for a total prize fund of R159 100.

Congratulations to the three Hermie players: Mika placed 7th, Logan 31st and Rico 9th in their respective sections.

More than 50 tiny beanies have been lovingly knitted and crocheted by our amazing community! 💙

These little beanies will be donated to support premature and low birth weight babies, helping to keep them warm during their first precious days of life. Organisations such as Beanies4Babies provide these handmade beanies to public hospitals across South Africa, where they play an important role in helping vulnerable newborns maintain their body temperature.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who gave of their time, talent, and kindness to knit and crochet these small pieces of comfort. Your generosity will bring warmth, hope, and love to some of our tiniest little fighters.

Great results coming out of the TSA Cape Town Winter Tournament!

Congratulations to Zach Burt for placing 3rd in the Boys u.14 Main Draw (16 draw).

The success continued in the doubles events, with Zach Burt and Leam Kühn taking home 2nd place in the Boys u.14 Main Draw Doubles.

Well done to Leam Kühn for a strong effort, finishing 12th overall in the highly competitive Boys u.14 Main Draw singles.

Baie geluk aan Livia Roodt (Graad 8 ) met haar verkiesing tot die O/15A Boland Muurbalspan. Hulle neem aan die IPTs in Oos Londen van 27 Junie tot 1 Julie deel.

The capping took place at the Marriot Hotel in Technopark, Stellenbosch.
