What does rich mean?
Reading to my five-year-old, I realized how the classical children’s novels cement the idea of rich.
• Jack, a poor boy climbs the beanstalk to steal valuables becoming rich.
• Poor old man and women have the elves make them shoes - they become rich.
• Hansel and Gretel take jewels from the witch’s home, making their father rich.
• Poverty stricken Dick Whittington sells his cat on the rat infested country to become wealthy.
• Puss in boots who uses trickery and deceit to gain power and wealth.
When I had asked my daughter, “What does it mean to be rich”?
Off course, she answered, rich means to have a lot of money!
I knew I had to change the narrative of what “rich” meant.
Rich means having friends to play with, rich means spending time with mum and dad, rich means having the freedom to run and play outdoors, rich means having a cozy bed to sleep in.
Rich means so many things instead of money. Something we ought to share with our kids 👩👧

All about Engineering!
Our career guidance initiative to public schools welcomed Danique Odayan and Kholeka Angel Nhlabathi from SMEC. They gave Grade 9 student's a brilliant presentation about Civil Engineering!
This presentation was informative for the students and an eye opener into the reality of what it takes to become an engineer both academically and in terms of soft skills.
Thank you to the ladies from SMEC for getting students excited about Engineering!

This year the PEACE programme partnered with Alexandra High School to pilot an after school career guidance programme for Grade 9 students.
The programme is free for Grade 9 students and will take place over 6 months. Each month various career fields are explored such as Life Sciences, Humanities, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Engineering and so much more.
Students are introduced to various careers in each field from professionals themselves whether via short videos or in person presentations.
The aim of the programme is for students to explore careers and subjects required to study these careers. Educating students on various careers enhances their career maturity (the degree to which individuals are prepared to make good educational or vocational decisions).
Through this programme students will be able to make good choices when it comes to their subject choice decision making in Grade 9. Furthermore, they will also have knowledge on how to plan towards their future career.
Last week we introduced the career field of Life Sciences to students. We explored careers such as ecologist, botanist, microbiologist, zoologist, marine biologist, medical scientist, environmentalist, food technologist and so much more.
Below are some pictures of the Life Sciences session with Grade 9 students at Alexandra High School.

In the past 6 weeks we partnered with a second group of management consulting students from Ixperience.
While these students were from abroad they brought more ideas, more depth and more knowledge on how to better implement he PEACE programme (career guidance programme) within a South African environment.
So grateful to be part of this!
