A charge of attempted murder has been added following the arrest of a 56-year-old bus driver who allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old learner.

The suspect is also facing a common assault charge.

According to police the learner was waiting for the bus to school with other learners at a bus stop at Oranjekuil farm in Hoopstad when the driver arrived and started reading the names on the list which excluded the learner's name.

The boy then went into the bus to ask the driver why his name was not on the list.

The bus driver allegedly started to assault and strangle him.

The boy got off the bus and reported the incident to his mother.

Police say a common assault case was registered and the charge was reviewed after consultation with prosecution authorities.

The man is expected to appear in the Hoopstad Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The secondary schools were even there to support the learner & they suggested that they DON'T WANT A BAIL & they also made it clear that they support each other & they are one blood
