PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | GSE Relocation Project
Breakthrough Solutions recently completed the successful relocation of multiple time-expired Ground Support Equipment (GSE) units from King Shaka International Airport to a local storage facility in Durban.
The project involved the movement of 12 GSE units with a combined weight of approximately 80 tons over a two-day period. While the relocation itself required careful planning and coordination, several unique challenges had to be addressed before the first unit could be moved.
A detailed route survey identified a particularly narrow single-lane bridge along the planned route, raising concerns about whether some of the larger equipment would safely pass through. To mitigate risk, our team conducted a full route assessment a week before operations commenced, using measuring equipment to verify clearances and movement requirements. A secondary, longer route was also developed as a contingency plan to ensure uninterrupted project ex*****on if required.
Additional challenges included manoeuvring extended transport vehicles through a restricted storage yard entrance and positioning equipment safely within the offload area.
Through detailed planning, specialised equipment, and the expertise of our operators, riggers, and drivers, the project was completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

🌍 LOGISTICS WATCH | Global Supply Chains Face Continued Pressure
The global logistics sector continues to navigate a challenging operating environment as geopolitical tensions, shipping disruptions, and capacity constraints impact supply chains worldwide.
One of the most significant concerns remains the ongoing disruption around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical trade corridor connecting global markets. Industry reports indicate that more than 1,000 cargo vessels and billions of dollars worth of goods have been affected by restrictions and delays in the region, creating uncertainty for international trade flows.
At the same time, many shipping lines continue to adjust routing strategies due to security concerns in both the Middle East and Red Sea regions. These diversions are increasing transit times, reducing available vessel capacity, and contributing to higher freight costs across several trade lanes.
The impact is also being felt in air cargo and express logistics. Fuel price volatility and changing surcharge structures are influencing transportation costs, while businesses continue to bring shipments forward to mitigate potential tariff changes and capacity shortages.
For importers, exporters, and supply chain managers, the message remains clear: proactive planning, reliable logistics partnerships, and supply chain resilience are becoming more important than ever.
As global trade conditions continue to evolve, organisations that can adapt quickly to disruption will be best positioned to maintain operational continuity and customer service levels.
At Breakthrough Solutions, we continue to monitor global developments to help our clients navigate an increasingly complex logistics landscape.
