UPDATE SUN 29 MAR 2020 8:30 AM

WACS UPDATE: The TATA cable vessel has spares onboard. It is underway to the SV8 (Highbridge UK) side cable break.
ETA at cable ground - TUE 31 MAR 2020. ETR - SAT 04 APR 2020.

SAT-3 UPDATE: The cable vessel is still in progress with repairs off-shore at the Congo. ETR around 2 APR 2020.

UPDATE SAT 28 MAR 2020 9:30 AM WACS UPDATE: The cut is on the cable section belonging to TATA which is between Highbridge (UK) and Seixal (Portugal). No ETR yet.

UPDATE SAT 28 MAR 2020 WACS UPDATE 5:00 AM: Complete cable cut on segment 4 at 39.0175Km from SV8 Cable Landing Station (CLS). Waiting for confirmation whether SV8 CLS is on the UK or Portugal side or whether this is a terrestrial versus sub-sea break.

UPDATE SAT 28 MAR 2020 WACS UPDATE: There is a suspected cable fault between Highbridge London and Seixal Portugal. Tests currently being conducted.

FRI 27 MAR 2020 - SLOW INTERNET IN SOUTH AFRICA
The West African Cable System (WACS) went down at around 23h28 on 27 MAR 2020. International internet speeds are affected including services such as Facebook.

Most internet service providers are rerouting via alternative systems like SEACOM and ESSy. The less critical SAT-3 cable has also been down since 9 MAR 2020 limiting backup capacity.

The estimated time of repair SAT-3 is 2 APR 2020.
At this time there are ETR for WACS.

The WACS cable also went down on 16 JAN 2020 and repairs were completed on 15 FEB 2020.
