FINTEC SOLUTIONS FOR ESG RATINGS. MEMBER OF RISKINSIGHTS GROUP OF COMPANIES - WWW.RISKINSIGHTS.CO.ZA
In this episode, Dr. Anushka Bogdanov tackles the most pressing issues shaping our world and reframes how we understand ESG. From geopolitical conflict and artificial intelligence to food security, migration, and declining institutional trust, this episode makes the case that ESG is not a report or a score. It is about understanding the interconnected risks that determine the future of our economies, our societies, and our planet. Dr. Bogdanov also explores Africa's critical role in building its own data, technology, and intellectual property rather than simply consuming what others have created.

Nigeria's future will not be determined by oil prices alone. It will be shaped by how effectively the country navigates a world where geopolitics, climate regulation, capital markets and ESG are becoming increasingly interconnected.
I am pleased to share our latest research paper:
Pricing Risk in Africa's Largest Economy: ESG, Oil Volatility, and Capital Markets in Nigeria
Research led by Dr Anushka Bogdanov, co-authored with Dr Andrey Bogdanov and Kunaal Kalyan, this research explores how global developments—including energy security, the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), foreign exchange volatility, governance, and sustainability disclosure—are changing how investors assess risk and value in Africa's largest economy.
Our research finds that ESG is no longer simply about sustainability reporting. It has become a fundamental component of capital allocation, competitiveness and long-term market resilience.
Some of the key themes explored include:
• How oil and foreign exchange volatility influence capital markets and investment decisions.
• Why global climate policy is reshaping trade, financing and corporate valuation.
• The importance of credible ESG disclosure in reducing the cost of capital.
• How stronger governance and data transparency can position Nigeria as a leading destination for sustainable investment.
This paper is intended for investors, policymakers, regulators, stock exchanges, development finance institutions and corporate leaders interested in the future of African capital markets.
We hope it contributes to a broader conversation on how African economies can strengthen resilience, improve market transparency and create long-term value in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
