In 1998 the Skills Development Act was rolled out in an effort to aid the further development of skills within the South African workforce by encouraging workplaces to become active learning environments and make provisions for ongoing education and skills development.

The manufacturing industry was being transformed by Industry 4.0 even before the pandemic, with features such as the use of big data and automation creating more efficient systems and processes.

Industry 4.0 is shorthand for the idea we are in the fourth industrial revolution, with advancement of technologies blurring the difference between physical and digital products.

The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies can be difficult and expensive, but in a world which is increasingly digital, it is imperative for manufacturers to adapt if they are to survive.

As a manufacturer, you likely rely heavily on a direct, distribution or dealer sales force for growth. The founders of manufacturing plants and factories were instrumental in building the business from the ground-up through street smarts, sweat, and hustle. However, markets are evolving and there is a need to dust off the old boots and get back to basics – albeit from a much greater vantage point and with more powerful tools to reach new local and global markets.
