What a great initiative today! ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

An important opportunity was given for the Minister of Electricity and Energy to engage directly with the Deaf community (43 attendees). This is exactly what we aim for with every Minister and MEC โ€” to engage, listen and value the Deaf communityโ€™s input and recommendations.

Real inclusion means Deaf-led participation and decision-making WITH our community, not for our community.

Todayโ€™s session was short, simple and valuable!

Thank you to DeafSA for hosting this meaningful engagement.

Where do I startโ€ฆ long story short.

Two years ago, applied for a Social Auxiliary Worker position in DeafSA Vredenburg. When I carefully checked her CV, I noticed something important โ€” she was completing her BA in Social Work at University of KwaZulu-Natal, with only one subject left to finish.

With appreciation to the Western Cape Department of Social Development for saying YES, she was given an opportunity to grow โ€” not just as a candidate, but as a future professional.

She then continued her journey as a Social Work Student at DeafSA Western Cape โ€“ Provincial Office, where she gained practical experience, strengthened her skills, and proved her commitment to the field.

Today โ€” look at this moment.
Londeka has officially completed her degree.

She is now the second Deaf Social Worker in South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ.

This journey was not easy. The past year came with real challenges, pressure, and moments of stress. My role was clear โ€” to empower, to support, and to ensure she stayed focused and did not lose herself in the process.

And she rose above it.

Londeka, I am truly proud of you.
Your resilience, discipline, and determination have brought you to this milestone.

Congratulations on your graduation from the University of KwaZulu-Natal ๐ŸŽ“
Now it is time to step into your professional role and continue making meaningful impact โ€” especially here in Cape Town, DeafSA Western Cape.

The work starts now. And you are ready.
