The quality of your education and/or training is important. Donโt compromise on quality when you choose a place of learning. Make sure that training is quality assured by the appropriate quality assurance body. If you have this assurance of quality, it will give you peace of mind that the qualification or the skills training will be recognised in the industry.

There is no doubt that small businesses will be the ones to drive the economy in the future, providing much-needed employment.
Apprenticeships for young people are an excellent way of getting a foot into a shrinking employment pool. โBest of all, young South Africans who embrace apprenticeships can enjoy earning whilst they learn. This is an important enabler for many young people to make a monetary contribution to parents or custodians and get them from their residences to either the training institution or the workplace,โ says Jakkie Olivier, CEO of the Retail Motor Industry (RMI), the largest collective employer in the automotive aftermarket.

Itโs Cool to be a 21st Century Artisan โ just ask third-year Port Elizabeth TVET College apprentice, ๐๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ค๐, who walked off with Gold at the fourth WorldSkills South Africa (WSZA) Biennial National Competition which took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in KwaZulu-Natal from 7โ10 June.
He was closely followed by 20-year-old ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ฆ๐๐ง, a second-year automotive motor mechanic apprentice, also from the Port Elizabeth TVET College, who won Gold in the automotive motor mechanic sector, at WorldSkills Africa in Namibia earlier this year.
Sabelo Buthelezi, Chief Director Special Projects Unit for the Department of Higher Education, says, โThe excellent skill sets shown during the competition are really encouraging. Our minister has now prioritised this CoS pilot project as a CoS programme that will gradually be expanded nationally according to set criteria and based on demand. Critically this is a demand-driven training intervention and it is highly dependent on collaboration and input from industry. Facilitator training is one of the key pillars of our programme and the results we are seeing today are evidence of the success of the partnership with HWK and retail organisations like RMI. As technology and the sector continue to evolve, we need to ensure these changes are built into our curriculum so that our apprentices can compete anywhere on the world stage.โ
